Brett
Neiman created freefilm in 2004 and produced the first volume of
work (eight films) that was released in 2005. Volume One, curated
by Brett Neiman and fellow videographer/editor Giselle Magat, featured
contributions from 21 artists from Chicago, New York, San Francisco,
and other parts of the Midwest.
The films were created under certain guidelines - the results...
anything but certain:
Four filmmakers were assembled, an Editor, Videographer, a Curator
of Music & Sound, and a Curator of Word & Sound. The Editor
would name the project, and it was to inform everyone's contribution
to the short.
The Videographer would shoot video, in whatever manner, form and
length that individual found appropriate given the title, and submit
the tape to the Editor. The Curator of Music & Sound, would
submit a recording of music and audio to the Editor, again, in whatever
manner, form and length that individual found appropriate given
the title. The Curator of Word & Sound would do the same. The
Editor then took those three recordings of source material and was
charged in making it work on screen. The result? An investigation
of the happy accident. freefilm.
